I held several positions at Digital River, starting as a Unix administrator (primarily Solaris and CentOS), then manager of the Unix team, and finally research engineer for the Advanced Technology Laboratory team. My team's responsibilities included monitoring industry trends, performance engineering, evaluation of products, consultation on company strategy, application design, and development of proof-of-concept applications. Projects included CMS evaluations, mobile strategy, development of a node.js app for real-time analytics, and research into cross-platform mobile application programming in javascript. Some of the technologies evaluated included OpenStack, Hadoop, Hive, Nesper, MongoDB, node.js, KVM, Xen, Hyper-V, and Cassandra.

I was the technical architect for a database used in libraries. I helped to determine which features would be included in our product and guided how they will be integrated. I also gave pre-sales support to the sales group by helping them best determine how our product would fit into a customer's environment and after the sale I helped the customer to integrate our software. I also did some very light java development.

In this position I was contracted to Morgan Stanley as a member of an architecture team for HR Applications including Savvion, Epicentric, Peoplesoft, and Informatica. We were responsible for deployment, administration, debugging, and monitoring of those applications and many others including Apache/Tomcat and a large number of in-house Java web applications. Our environment was primarily Solaris and RedHat Linux, but there were a number of ASP applications running on Windows 2000 Server as well.

I also was the primary person responsible for interoperability with the vendors of various databases used within the libraries including Dynix/Horizon, Sirsi, and Polaris as well as other technologies such as smart cards.

Originally I was contracted through ICES Ltd. as an onsite supporttechnician providing desk-side support to users running various Unixvariants (HP-UX and Solaris primarily) as well as Macintosh and theWindows family (95,98,NT). In September 1999 I was hired as a full-time employee in the Software Distribution group where my primary responsibilities were packaging and distributing software packages to the users using Tivoli primarily, but also using a custom front-end program I wrote in Winbatch to ensure that the year 2k updates that were being distributed would hit the maximum number of PC's.

For my first year or so, I was a full-time resource at the University of Minnesota Hospital and Clinics providing deskside support primarily for Macintosh systems (though with a fair amount of Windows as well) after the purchase by Fairview.Then I acted as a consultant going to a number of companies to assist with technical migration projects - many of which involved upgrading from Windows 3.1 to Windows 95 or from Netware 3.x to Netware 4.x or Windows NT. Clients included Northwest Airlines, Equitable Insurance, and Progressive Insurance. Originally contracted through ICES Ltd and later a full-time employee.
