A graduate of DeVry Institute of Technology in Phoenix, Az. in 1976, I began my professional career at National Semiconductor in Sunnyvale, Ca., working on the development of HeNe laser barcode scanners for retail use. In 1977 I began working at Tektronix in Beaverton, OR. designing precision test and measurement equipment. After 13 years there, I spent 6 years designing telecommunications circuitry for NEC America and Prometheus Corp, then 5+ years designing embedded X86 based hardware and analog circuitry at RadiSys Corp. In 2001, after decades of moonlighting on various EE projects, I began full time consulting. FEI Company, a client, offered me a full time position that was far too fun and interesting to decline. The nanotechnology projects my group was assigned offered many satisfying accomplishments in FIB and SEM products, and my first patent. In 2008 two former workmates and I formed Long River Tech, LLC, which specializes in electronic hardware design, leveraging our small group's extensive knowledge and experience in precision instrumentation and nanotech-related design involving primarily analog, FPGA and system level work. Also, in 2008, early onset Alzheimer's Disease forced my wife Libby to resign from her teaching position. More and more of my work had to be done from my home office and lab, as caregiving evolved into a 24/7 responsibility. I did try out a memory care facility, but quickly concluded that she was much better off at home. She outlived her doctors' projections by years, being in her familiar and comfortable environment of home, but the cruel disease took her in September of last year, a week after our 21st wedding anniversary at the young age of 64. I miss her very much, but also miss working on the larger, more challenging projects I'm accustomed to taking on, and am consequently in search of interesting work with intelligent, innovative, business-savvy, and reasonable coworkers, whether as a consultant or an employee.
