Managed a group of 25 employees responsible for all Optimization and Remote Services for Canadian Operations. The optimization and remote services group was responsible for remote monitoring, remote drilling, remote MWD and gamma operations, survey correction, remote monitoring for vibration, magnetics monitoring, daily client optimization updates, EDR plots, 3D visualization plots, well reviews, pad reviews, offset comparisons, time-depth comparisons and plots, paid optimization services, modelling (torque and drag, hydraulics, critical speed, build rate tendency), area/field bench marking, as-drilled friction factor calibrations, drill pipe selection, motor selection, parameter selection, failure analysis and root cause investigations.This position also involved a high level of client interaction and frequent presentations.

Optimization engineering duties include; monitoring active wells, analysing planned and as-drilled wells for hydraulic and torque&drag concerns, analyzing bottom hole assemblies and drill string components, suggesting courses of action for future wells based on previous data gathered, monitoring company-wide performance in specific oil plays to develop a database of best management practices, conducting and compiling failure analyses, compiling and analyzing rig data and liaising between clients and our staff in operations, sales and well planning.

Well planning duties include; the design of well paths along a given trajectory and depth, reviewing legal land survey documents, knowledge of different geodetic datums and magnetic models, calculations for build/turn rates, knowledge of geological formations and reviewing geological prognoses, creating and analysing collision reports based on offset well data, creating daily survey updates for all clients based on as-drilled surveys from the field, communicating with field staff and heavily communicating with clients (including design and pre-spud meeting attendance).

Projects typically involved an initial site assessment, outlining general design requirements, supervision of land surveys, review of surveys and cross section outputs from our AutoCAD drafters, engineering design for the given project including highway design, vertical/horizontal profile calculations, geometric analyses for intersections, traffic impact analyses, traffic counts, quantity calculations and cost projections. Upon completion of the design I would create a tender package which the client would provide to contractors for bidding purposes. The tender packages would include quantity calculations, standard drawings, special construction procedures, traffic control requirements and important dates and deadlines. Upon completion of the tender process I would be responsible for on-site supervision for the duration of the construction period. On-site duties would include initial safety meetings, communication with the contractor, communication with the client representative, monitoring the safety, speed and quality of the work, updating quantities and cost calculations for daily submission to the client and QC testing for materials used.
