Serve as subject matter expert for any inquiry involving Equal Opportunity (EO) related issues and concerns. Advise leadership on EO issues and concerns. Certified in mediation and the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) process.

Provides leadership and direction for safety/security needs for the public, patients and staff at Western State Hospital which is a 800 bed Joint Commission certified psychiatric hospital. Ensures a properly secured environment of care as required by the Joint Commission, CMS, state and local law, agency regulations and hospital policy. Ensure that policy and procedure for the high security forensic unit and campus security is updated and properly implemented by safety/security staff. Works closely with the Safety Manager to prepare and implement life/safety checks and the Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan. Organizes, plans and directs the day-to-day operations of the two safety/security units, the forensic services internal security unit providing services to the high security 241 bed forensic center, and the general campus safety/security staff providing services to the 240 acre 800 bed psychiatric hospital.

Organize, setup, and assist chaplains in religious services for 8 different geographically isolated units along the I-5 corridor in western Washington. Helped to increased chapel worship from 3-5 attendees per services to 15-20 per service. In charge of transition from antiquated computer system to one that meets the current needs of the chapel. Responsible for coordinating moving chapel office on three different occasions. Conduct newcomer briefing with regards to the chapel office for new recruits. Coordinate, develop, and promote annual Prayer Breakfast for all Western Washington. Insure that the religious rights of the officers and airman in the units in my area are supported. Research various religious organizations airmen are involved in, to insure they are within Air Force standards. Conduct classes on Suicide Prevention and Workplace Violence Awareness annually for 16 different units and 1100 National Guard personnel from across western Washington. Conduct various religious and cultural briefs to the different units as needed. Provide religious material to airmen. Plan, organize, and conduct events that help to promote the chapel office. Supervise other chaplain assistants.

Responsible for development, recruitment, and training of a new team of ward based staff that train other staff in areas that encourage safe interactions and relationships with the consumers we serve. Coordinated, compiled, and developed training for the SAFE Team. Coordinated with CFO and other hospital organizations to bring in outside trainers for training on leadership and adult education. Compiled with the help of WSH Staff Development training for and used by the SAFE Team. Developed paradigm shift training to assist the SAFE Team in moving forward with positive changes for the hospital. Recruited a specific number of SAFE Team members to act as Coordinators for their shifts. Worked closely with this group to coordinate training so it occurred on every ward and every shift within the allocated time frame. Worked closely with the Organizational Performance and Performance Measurement Information Departments to identify what type of training is needed and what wards to start training on. Conduct training throughout the hospital for all departments and wards, to date 3000 staff. Speak to other state agencies and outside organizations on the successes of the SAFE Team and how other organizations can use this information to help their organizations with staff and consumer safety. The TEAM Manual is training material used at Western State Hospital to help staff react to behavioral crisis. I developed the new physical aspects of the TEAM manual.

Had shift charge responsibility and assisted in orienting, directing, guiding and developing MHT/MHLPN personnel. Initiated performance evaluations on MHT/MHLPN staff. Mentored and trained co-workers and subordinates in all aspects of duties and responsibilities on the ward. Coordinated patients’ clinical appointments. Assigned break/meal periods for MHT/MHLPN personnel. Managed ward sterile supplies. Assisted with physical containment of potentially dangerous patients and be able to pursued escaping patients. Participated in providing therapeutic environment. Recognition of pathology of patient behavior and guidance toward more rational behavior. Implemented and documented treatment strategies. Observed and documented patient reactions and responses to treatment implemented. Attended to general care of patients, provided for their emotional and physical comfort and safety. Gave assistance and guidance in cleanliness, grooming, rest, activities and nourishment. Prepared and cared for patients receiving treatments administered by physician or Registered Nurse (selected nursing procedures-aseptic technique). Prepared and administered medications, oral, subcutaneous and intramuscular. Assist and supervise patients in group or individual recreational, social or related activities.

directs the Western State Hospital Safe Alternatives for Everyone (SAFE) Team, a function that has responsibility for reducing assault injuries in all parts of the hospital on all shifts and days of the year. The mission of the SAFE Team is to ensure a safe environment and enhance respect, dignity and well-being for patients and staff members at Western State Hospital through role-modeling, training, and continuous development of more effective intervention principles and techniques. The Director selects and trains SAFE Team members, and oversees their consultation and training duties.
