Principal at Menomonee Falls High School Dan Gebauer began his teaching career in 2004 as a fourth grade teacher in one of the highest achieving school districts in the state. Throughout his teaching years, he found that he could personalize the classroom learning environment by pursuing a one-to-one technology policy and using online student assessment and learning management systems. Dan discovered that the integration of technology along with the use of inquiry, voice and choice, and goal setting inspired students to work harder and smarter. Dan’s ease and familiarity with technology and his desire to see other educators embrace digital teaching led him to his current position as a Teaching and Learning Specialist. Dan has trained over 300 educators in the use of SmartBoards, Google Applications, Google Chromebook classroom apps and extensions, iPad application integration, and web-based assessment and learning systems. Because Dan is a lifelong learner, he achieved National Board Certification in 2011 as a middle childhood generalist. This rigorous process measures command of content, design of learning, use of formative assessments in decision making, and partnerships with parents, colleagues, and the community. Dan has also held leadership positions in mathematics education, grading and reporting, value-added data analysis, teacher professional development, personalized learning with technology, and teacher coaching. He has also presented at the Chromebook Institute in Downer’s Grove, Illinois and for Wisconsin Education Innovations. Dan holds a Bachelors of Science degree from UW-Milwaukee and a Masters Degree in Education from Cardinal Stritch University. He was a Woodrow Wilson fellow at the Milwaukee School of Engineering and has completed an MBA in Educational Leadership. Dan enjoys spending time with his two children, Macy and Jacob, and his wife, Jamie.
