Sr. Principal Electrical Engineer (Lead)
Principal Lead Electrical Engineer
Lead Engineer responsible for the architecture and implementation of the electrical and electronic system sof five new industrial digital billboard printers (leading 4-5 designers). I designed the electronics, digital and analog, as well as multiple Xilinx FPGAs and Altera CPLDs using Verilog. Consultant on CPLD/FPGA development and PCB design/layout techniques. Key contributor to the software/hardware (system) integration process. Architected the electronics for a next generation printer family using Gigabit Ethernet, on-board RAID and up to 128 print heads. Involved in the design of advanced platforms for the evaluation and integration of new print heads (16 shades of gray) in our systems. Resolved EMI issues in existing printer systems that required PCB, mechanical and system interconnect redesign. Analyzed existing board designs and identified and resolved multiple existing issues: basic design as well as EMI related. Instrumental in establishing new design rules as well as new design processes.
Manager Of The Electrical Engineering Team, Principal Lead Design Eng.
Design of lightnig electronics used for imaging in document authentication devices. Increased my familiarity with optics, as well as IR, UV and other types of lighting used in these systems.
Principal Electrical Engineer
Developed the “control” plane for a 22 layer, high density, high speed “comms” Line Card; it consisted of an MPC750, DRAM, RAMBUS, FLASH, multiple PCI bridges, interfaces to other system boards, multiple FPGAs that interfaced to on-board network processors and switch fabric. Worked on OC48 PHY card design. Took the lead in designing the power subsystem for the Line Card and subsequently a number of physical interface cards. Lead engineer for board layout and production transition. Extensive experience with System Integration and troubleshooting system wide issues in the lab, providing “consulting” support on analog issues to other designers: identified and eliminated noise in the power rails of the Network DSP and the RAMBUS subsystem, which was running at 200-400 Mhz. Successfully accomplished, noise reduced by 50% to 75% thus eliminating errors and improving the reliability of the design.
Principal Software/Electrical Engineer
Designed multiple embedded image processing boards for scanners and printers, based on proprietary DSP processors running at 100-160Mhz. Designed and implemented the boards (including the FPGAs), put them through the layout and manufacturing process; designed and implemented the runtime firmware, the hardware test bench as well as the diagnostics running on this hardware. I was the Technical lead on some of these projects: teams consisted of hardware, software as well as DSP microcode designers. Implemented an Autoseparation (imaging) Algorithm and benchmarked it against other similar algorithms. $20 million of annual income (out of $50-$60mil) was directly attributable to my contribution. Actively and successfully interfaced with our international customers as well as internal sales and marketing teams on many of these projects in the definition as well as the implementation and delivery phase.
Senior Sw/Hw Engineer
Designed intelligent interfaces for a portable Fax machine, to various cellular telephones such as those manufactured by Motorola and Nokia; the hot sellers of the day. Had full responsibility for the hardware (digital as well as analog), firmware, mechanicals as well as the manufacturing process of these cables which was done in Mexico. The interfaces were based on the 80x51 processor and supported various analog phone interfaces at a very low cost.
Contractor/Consultant Sw & Hw Design
Designed real time data acquisition software for field and avionic spectrometer systems. Designed and built Hardware Simulators that facilitated the develop and debug the software well before the system was ready (these simulation tools identified problems in other existing hardware & software). Designed software for video text generation systems for the instrument’s video unit.
Manager Terminal Servers Sw Group
Manager of the High End Terminal Server Firmware development group and subsequently Manager of the "Current" Terminal Server Group products. Led the development of large scale Terminal Server products as well as support of the legacy products. Responsible for the management of the team, budgeting as well as ownership of the schedules and interfacing to outside teams in the company to assure a smooth transition of products into production as well as field support.
Sw/Fw Engineer + Manager Io & Comms Fw Team
Lead designer, implementor and manager of the Comms and I/O Devices software team. Designed multiple I/O and comms devices for the VAX 750 and PDP11 UNIBUS based systems; had full managerial responsibility for the team of seven software engineers. Worked very closely with the hardware team and our customers to define the architecture of these devices. Received the Norden Award of excellence.
Microcode/Diagnostics Engineer
Design microcode and microdiagnostics for the VAX780 & 8600 line of minicomputers, memory units as well as arithmetic logic units.
