Based at Oregon State University, PacWave operates two open ocean, wave energy test sites located just off the Pacific coast near the deep-water port of Newport, Oregon. Both PacWave sites support the testing of wave energy converters (WECs), research on powering of the blue economy technologies, and can be used to develop related technology and protocols including environmental monitoring instrumentation, anchor and mooring systems, and deployment, recovery and O&M procedures.

NNMREC’s mission was to facilitate commercialization of marine energy technology, inform regulatory and policy decisions, and close key gaps in scientific understanding. We provided access to a variety of marine energy converter testing facilities through the U.S. Pacific Northwest. Our vision was to add other test facilities to the NNMREC portfolio to create a global hub for marine renewable energy development. NNMREC later became the Pacific Marine Energy Center, or PMEC (pmec.us).

While at the Urban Harbors Institute, I played an integral role as a project manager and analyst in research and planning projects focused on coastal and ocean management; marine spatial planning; port and harbor management; the marine economy and marine industries; policy analysis and development; and natural resource protection.
