Web Applications UK specialises in creating bespoke travel reservation software. One of my main responsibilities was carrying out customisations of this software, where each client's system was different from the last. This often involved database, server-side and client-side changes. As such I was exposed to a range of technologies all across the development stack and gained valuable insight into how these different layers work together. The primary technologies/languages used were T-SQL, VBScript/Classic ASP, HTML, CSS and JavaScript (typically using jQuery).In order to ensure consistency in the quality of my own and other developers' work, I regularly performed unit testing of my own code, as well as code reviews and peer testing. Part of this was taking into account standards set by individual clients, such as how dates should be formatted or how UI elements should look. Additionally, internal coding and documentation procedures had to be followed for the purpose of maintainability.Beyond development work, I was also responsible for support issues which involved fixing any bugs found by clients in their system. This meant utilising my problem solving skills along with my programming knowledge to determine the most likely cause of the issue and then decide upon an appropriate solution. As part of this, I had to liaise with clients and colleagues in order to ensure that the proposed solution was acceptable and if it wasn't, work to identify a more agreeable solution.
