Participated in developing a strategic project plan, creating a high-performance team with a vision to build and operate three power generation, resource production facilities producing >350 MW and drilling and testing >40 wells.  Developed and submitted numerous responses to requests for offers from Load Serving Entities in California. Led the development and submittal of a sales tax exemption of >$16 M that was approved by California Alternative Energy and Advanced Transportation Financing Authority.  Led the development of a Process Flow Diagram and worked with a turbine vendor to optimize the turbine/generator and Resource Production Facility (RPF).  Participated in the development of a transmission Generator Interconnecting Request including System Impact and Facility Studies and interacted with the utility. Led the development of a capital and operating and maintenance (O&M) budget as inputs to the financial model supporting the PPA pricing and sensitivity analyses. Led the hiring and management of “owner’s engineer” to perform a Front-End Engineering Design study resulting in the technical information to support the Application for Certification (AFC) for the California Energy Commission and the technical portions of an Engineer, Procure, Construct (EPC) Request for Proposal with budget and options for EPC oversight.

San Francisco Bay Area

Delivered high-value results for worldwide clients in drilling, design, construction, operations and retrofits. Managed a $54M Djibouti, Africa exploration project with a team of five companies including geologic prognosis, the overall drilling program, civil works, well testing, and the “bankable” feasibility report. The project was funded by seven different international finance institutions. Led/participated in geothermal design, construction, operations and due diligent for developments in Turkey, Africa , Europe, Caribbean, New Zealand, El Salvador, and the US (Salton Sea, Coso, North Brawley, Dixie Valley, and The Geysers).

d the Hudson Ranch Power 1 project (Salton Sea). Reported directly to the joint ` venture’s owners and tax credit investor. Created and executed annual operating budgets of $48M revenue, $16M expenses, and $2M capital. Negotiated and implemented O&M service and supply contracts, five-year business plans, and key performance indicators for budget, geothermal processes, and HES. Selected and hired 34 operations and maintenance team members. Developed financial, operations, maintenance and safety policies and procedures. Created an operations culture of learning and openness with no lost time accidents. Renegotiated power purchase agreements which resulted in a 16% increase in revenue.

Oversaw operations of 120 MW and construction of 240 MW geothermal power plants. Reported directly to Boards of three Mauri-owned trusts and the Mercury Board. Grew Mighty River Power’s Geothermal Generation Portfolio from $500M to $1.5B and 100MWs to 360 MWs in four years. Provided technical and construction oversight for $1.5B investment. Accomplishments included: directing the bid process and negotiating lump sum EPC contracts for construction; overseeing a $100M high-risk drilling program and contract; developing operation’s process and procedures, capital expense and maintenance budgets ($55M); and hired 80 professional and non-professional staff. Earned operations and maintenance company bonus fees in two of four years for significantly exceeding net revenue budget without a HES reportable incident. Managed the MRP professional staff to develop the exploration and drilling plan which proved the commercial viability of a new resource area with only three exploratory wells leading to the commercially successful 90MW Ngatamariki geothermal power plant.

Built firm’s new Water Resources division with a focus on surface and groundwater sampling, modeling, and geo- spatial analysis. Grew new business unit from zero to 14 employees with gross revenues of $3M. Collaborated with local college to hire graduate students providing practical, hands-on work experience while holding costs down.

Professor for Fluid Mechanics, Project Management, Civil Engineering Professions and Senior Design. Performed a two-year water quality study of a watershed in South Dakota.

Hired as change agent to turnaround troubled business units. Managed $58M annual revenue and 180 employees. Participated as “Owners Engineer” for the design, construction, and startup of Salton Units 2 and 3. Set electric sales generation records for 2 of 7 years in Tiwi Increased environmental health and safety rating from the bottom of Unocal fleet to top 20%. Assessed staff skills and performance gaps, recruited qualified candidates, and realigned organization to improve performance. Built and managed successful relationships with the local village leaders, the national utility (NPC), the American Chamber of Commerce, and the U.S. Embassy, which helped achieve Unocal corporate goals.

Team leader for power plant site selection within The Geysers resource. Created permit documents for Units 16 and 18 and transmission line as technical leader. Secured California Energy Commission and other regulatory approvals.
