Analysis of LUX-ZEPLIN data with advanced ML techniques, and development of crystal xenon hardware for future dark matter observatories

Working with Matthew Moulson, Tommaso Spadaro and Silvia Martellotti on designing and testing a PreShower Detector (PSD) component for initial designs for the KLEVER detector, to be used in a preliminary design report. Remote simulation work with some contact, using ROOT, C++ and Geant4.

Tutoring a variety of students in A level and GCSE Maths and Physics

Flexible role during term time, typically relating to discussions with physics applicants and tours of the university for interested parties.

Working for 4 weeks with the Sheffield ATLAS group to begin and develop the framework for STARDUST, a combination of neural networks in Tensorflow designed to identify surface imperfections in images of the new STAR chipset, to be developed for the ATLAS ITk.

8 weeks working with the NEWS-G collaboration in Birmingham. This involved working in Geant4, ROOT and Garfield++ to assess the transport of protons and alpha particles in nitrogen gas, evaluating the effect of this transport on amplitude and rise time picked up by a spherical proportional counter, testing the efficiency of paraffin and polyethylene at thermalising neutrons and general debugging.

Working as a teacher at DEC for 4 weeks. This involved teaching 5 full lessons, presenting starter activities and plenaries, helping particularly disadvantaged students and working with technicians and scribes to help with all aspects of lessons.

As a year rep, I hosted and promoted a number of events for the society. I also managed the university's tutoring scheme with a nearby secondary school, and developed promotional material for the society.
