Mr. Malcolm is currently serving in his fourteenth year as Port Commissioner of the Unified Port of San Diego and has served as Chairman of the Board of Port Commissioners twice during his tenure. The Port of San Diego is a State of California governmental agency which controls over 34 miles of waterfront tideland property along San Diego Bay and the Pacific Ocean. The Port manages over 800 commercial and industrial tenant leaseholds along the waterfront comprised of many millions of square feet of property improvements which include the San Diego Convention Center, numerous resort hotels and marinas, 75 restaurants, two operational maritime terminals, two cruise ship terminals, 22 waterfront parks and the Harbor Police Department with 132 sworn Harbor Police Officers. The Port is one of 17 ports in the United States with the Strategic Port designation and is home to the Naval Pacific Fleet with over 60 home-ported naval vessels in San Diego Bay, the most of any port in the United States. The Port's maritime division operates Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal and the Port of San Diego is the fourth largest maritime port by volume in California.

In 2006 Mr. Malcolm became a Principal of Lee & Associates - San Diego when the firm was first formed in San Diego through the acquisition of Retail Properties Group. The firm is a full service commercial real estate brokerage specializing in retail, land, office, industrial and apartment properties. Mr. Malcolm was one of the senior brokers of the firm directing the retail/commercial division which focused on retail and shopping center property leasing and sales. Lee & Associates - San Diego contracted with over 30 agents and related staff, was in the top 10 commercial brokerages in San Diego County and handled in excess of 3 million square feet of commercial property in the Western United States.

In 1993 Mr. Malcolm joined Retail Properties Group, a San Diego based commercial real estate brokerage company specializing in the leasing, sales and management of shopping centers and commercial retail property in the Western United States. Starting as a Marketing Associate with the firm, Mr. Malcolm rose to the position of Associate Vice President during his tenure. In 2006 Retail Properties Group was acquired by Lee & Associates with Mr. Malcolm becoming a Principal of Lee & Associates San Diego.
