CurrentObwombe Enterprises Limited was established in November, 2018 to tackle the high rate of unemployment and food insecurity.Its offices and nucleus farm are located near Mutumbu market in Malanga Sub location, Gem Sub County, Siaya County along the Kisumu-Busia road.It is majorly involved in breeding, rearing and marketing of chicken and chicken products including eggs, chicken meat and organic manure. The nucleus farm is operational with a capacity for 15,000 hens. The company identifies itself with offering affordable and ethical products to its customers thus leading to its increased popularity within the region and beyond.Obwombe Enterprises has established an egg market in the local community and distributors who sell to retailers in various local markets and urban centers in Siaya, Kisumu, Kakamega, Vihiga and Uasin Gishu counties.Going forward, the company aims to diversify its product portfolio by introducing Kienyenji chicks through contract farming with farmers in Siaya County. Alongside modernizing the nucleus farm. Obwombe seeks to develop a scalable and sustainable Outgrower model. This is the focus for the next five years. The mission of the project “To establish a sustainable Outgrower Scheme for Poultry Farming in Siaya by the end of 2022. Obwombe is collaborating with several partners and farmers in Siaya County in the project implementation.The project is addressing poultry commercialization initiatives with the following objectives: To increase the availability of quality chicken in adequate volumes from entrepreneurial farmers. To increase adoption of semi-commercial and commercial chicken production systems among smallholders in the KCDMS’ Zone of Influence. To enhance service delivery to chicken farmers including access to quality feed, chicks, veterinary products and services as well as extension support. To increase the profitable participation of women and youth in the poultry value chain.
