Dan was nominated for and a finalist for the Wallace A. Bacon Lifetime Teaching Excellence Award (NCA, Washington, D.C.) in 2017. The Wallace A. Bacon Lifetime Teaching Excellence Award was created by the Legislative Council in 1991. The Bacon Lifetime Teaching Excellence Award was designed to recognize that a lifetime of outstanding teaching should be encouraged and recognized. Dan received the “Outstanding Teacher Award” during his tenure in Douglas County, as well as the “Board of Education Recognition Award” for his mentoring of at-risk students. While at Elizabeth High School, Dan established a student produced film and broadcasting program, EZTV. Elizabeth High School was named as one of the top 5 film schools in the state by Geoffrey Chadwick, faculty advisor at Colorado Film School. Dan was voted "Best Teacher in Elbert County" in 2017 & 2018.Dan earned his MA Degree from the University of Colorado at Denver, Stanford University and Metropolitan State College. Dan holds a highly-qualified CTE (Career and Technical Education) credential from CDE (Secondary Math, Audio, Film and Video Technology, Journalism and Broadcasting).While at Lewis Palmer Middle School, Dan established and maintained the student led broadcast, film and video production program, LPTV. LPTV began as an after school club consisting of 9 students, in January 2006, and by 2012 Dan had developed LPTV into a nationally acclaimed, comprehensive, career pathways program. In the spring of 2009, LPTV received a letter of commendation from Colorado Congressman Ed Perlmutter, for their exemplary Veterans Oral History Project video, now archived in the American Folklore Center at the Library of Congress. LPTV’s mission is “preserving the oral histories of veterans in our community.”In December of 2013, Dan, along with a couple of his students and his daughter, were featured on the NBC TODAY SHOW.Dan was selected as the Colorado Big Brother of the Year in 2010.www.danmarcus.org
