A Maritimer with significant Ottawa public service and public policy experience, having a pan-Atlantic perspective on issues related to the energy, and clean technology sectors among broader economic issues.An advisor to five Ministers of the Crown including Executive Assistant/Chief of Staff to three ministers, and Senior Policy Advisor to another. Previously, Director of the National Liberal Caucus Research Bureau. Experience at Environment Canada, Human Resources Development Canada, the Department of Justice, Industry Canada, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency. Important Ministerial files included: measures to address the northern cod fishery moratorium, far-reaching amendments to the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, early climate change initiatives, reducing sulphur levels in gasoline, the Children’s Agenda (including the National Child Benefit, Early Childhood Development), and Canada’s response in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.Work with the Atlantic Canada Energy Office at ACOA entailed high level federal-provincial engagement on a wide range of energy issues impacting the petroleum and electricity sectors, clean and green renewables and R,D&D initiatives. Equally comfortable with the structure and workings of Parliament Hill, and the Government of Canada at the highest levels, with a solid grasp of the dynamics inherent in the government/political interface.
