Clinical Team Lead
CurrentAs a clinical team lead in the Forensic Mental Health department of Contra Costa County I am responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of the Laura's Law team and for providing consultation on cases for other team members. Since beginning as the Team Lead I have designed and implemented a staff training program, instituted program level change to optimize the referral and investigation process, and successfully advocated with community treatment providers to increase enrollment in the Laura's Law program.Clinical duties include conducting field based psychosocial assessments on individuals diagnosed with chronic serious mental illness in order to determine whether each individual meets criteria for the Laura's Law program. I conduct risk assessments in the field during each visit, engage in deescalation as necessary, and initiate psychiatric holds when appropriate. As a field based clinician I also network with community providers and facilities to advocate on behalf of clients for appropriate placement.Legal duties include writing civil court petitions for individuals who meet the Laura's Law criteria and are placing themselves at risk in the community. Each legal petition is presented during a weekly court calendar, and supported by testimony when required. I follow each case through a minimum of six months to oversee the treatment provided to each individual and advocate with the court for clinically appropriate treatment recommendations.
