My background is as a theatre-maker, and I now combine running Narativ London and our Listening and Storytelling work, with creative projects in theatre and film. Narativ’s mission is A World Connected by Listening and Telling Stories and we work towards this by bringing our unique Listening and Storytelling methodology to a wide range of organisations and individuals. With offices in London and New York, Narativ is dedicated to personal storytelling and its power to transform connection and communication between people. Stories are how we make sense of the world and our own experience in it - they are also the most powerful way to communicate this to someone else. So story exploration is both a reflective, learning space, and a way to impactfully connect with others. At Narativ we work with a range of organisations, from large multi-national corporates to small social enterprises, from mission-based organisations to Arts bodies, from individual Leaders to advocates on specific issues. We collaborate with organisations on diverse projects harnessing the different applications for Story work. These include Leadership and Team Retreats, and courses with a focus on Advocacy and Influencing, Engagement and Team Cohesion, Values and Culture, Creativity, On-boarding and Training, Diversity. We also provide 1-2-1 coaching and have a group of regular coaching clients. The origin of my work with Narativ:In June 2001 I sat in a cafe in Chelsea New York, with Paul Browde and Murray Nossel, advising them how to create a piece of storytelling performance. The idea was for the two of them, a psychiatrist and a documentary filmmaker, to step on a stage with no script and for 75-minutes to be able to tell the story of their friendship, from meeting at school aged 12 to that very present moment. As they described this idea to me, I could feel a build up of energy inside me which suddenly burst out with me saying the words 'I have to direct this!' The result was a close collaboration over the next 10 years and the creation of the ground-breaking and internationally acclaimed Two Men Talking, a performance exploring the infinite possibilities of two men in conversation on stage. This piece has been described as the live performance of a relationship' and has now been performed hundreds of times, Off-Broadway, at the Edinburgh Festival and in London’s West End, and continues to engage audiences around the world. Paul and Murray founded Narativ in New York in 2004, building on our work with this piece. Narativ London was founded by Jane Nash and myself in 2009.
