Current-Firearms Instructor at Police Academy, Firearms Training Unit: July 2022-presentIn my role as a firearms instructor, I train police officers and recruits to become proficient with tasers, oleoresin capsicum (OC) spray, pistols, rifles, shotguns, and submachine guns through both classroom and live-fire instruction and educate them about legal and policy considerations surrounding the use of force. I also diagnose and correct student performance as well as create lesson plans to improve the relevance and quality of the training that I offer.-Patrol Division, Seventh Precinct, and Community-Oriented Police Enforcement Unit (COPE): January 2017-July 2022During my time on patrol and the Community-Oriented Police Enforcement Unit, I established and maintained a rapport with other officers and with the communities we servde throughout hundreds of interactions and calls for service and collaborated with fellow officers and supervisors to evaluate, analyze, and de-escalate tense and dynamic situations and resolve conflicts between community members while remaining sensitive to cultural, ethnic, racial, and religious differences. I also interviewed crime victims, witnesses, and suspects to collect information and prepared written statements on behalf of victims and witnesses and escalated community concerns to supervisors when appropriate.
