I spent the first 6 years of my career working at a Branded Merchandise company starting as a Junior Account Manager and working my way up to being an Account Director. I successfully took on a account base which was doing about £240,000 a year and tripled the spend of the account base within a couple of years by maximising existing customers spend, seeking new customers, being referred and expanding the product range we offered.Then when Covid hit the industry took a big hit and I went from doing £60,000 a month on promotional merchandise to literally nothing! Luckily I'd been working on a car wax in my spare time and had brought it to market in January 2020, selling no more than 2 pots a week. Then by some miracle I ran some Facebook ads mid way through March (just as Covid was starting to be talked about) and we sold 500 pots! And the rest was history, it became my full time job for 2 years as I worked on more formulas, expanded the product range and did everything I could to get Detail Freaks recognised in the car care product world!Problem I had though was I was starting to feel like I was pushing too hard on sales. I was becoming the DFS of the detailing world and well aware of it. I'd created a little beast (unit, insurance, wages, products, stock, machinery) and although we saw a great initial two years of revenue I knew it was starting to plummet as we came out of covid and people where starting to have less disposable income due to furlough pay stopping and the cost/inflation of everything increasing! So plan 2 came into action (which I'd been doing anyway as a back up plan on and off) and I went full steam ahead with Sussex Valeting. A mobile valeting and detailing service covering Sussex where we come to you to either clean or detail your car. Everything from simple exterior washes to machine polishing paintwork and application of ceramic coatings.A year and a half into committing more time into the mobile valeting side and we are running a healthy business with lots of repeat custom. Regularly turning down work as we're fully booked for weeks (sometimes months) ahead and looking to grow the business with more staff and vans on the road.Details Freaks is still running and the two businesses work nicely together being in the same industry/space.
