Originally hired to manage the Failure Analysis Engineers and processes. Have since been promoted to also manage the Service Evaluation process and in 2014 absorbed the Laser Machine Tool (LMT) business unit production team and service processes. The LMT business is a global 10+ million a year business. Responsible for Managing the CO2 Evaluation and Service group charged with testing warranty returns and depot repairs (paid repairs), repairing electronic product, tracking failures, monitoring and reporting on trends, maintaining throughput targets, improving processes and turn around times. Re-engineered process, improved Process travelers, documentation, Grew service revenue to record levels and improved service margins through managing and improving processes, obsolescence and pricing strategies. Provided guidance and support to sales and key customer accounts. Developed service strategies and programs to make service a competitive advantage for Coherent.Lead LMT production and service teams to improve product, processes and costs for the machine tool product that incorporate CO2. Participated on the transfer team that moved production to both our Bloomfield Facility and Malaysia factories. Implemented improved service and production processes to improve margins and service offerings to customers (lower cost of ownership).The Failure Analysis group consists of Engineers charged with conducting root cause analysis of field and factory failures, developing analytical, mechanical, and environmental tests to identify and precipitate failures. Responsible for working with Engineering and Product Management to report on failure trends and to work with customers to help identify failure root causes. Responsible for tracking warranty returns, failure trends and creating reports for customers and driving design changes to eliminate failures.

Hired to expand and improve existing research and development facility in support of copper and fiber optic connector technologies. Responsible for supporting the new product development process, printed circuit board design, product reliability and quality, manufacturing, Technical Support and Marketing groups through the use of the corporate research and development laboratory.

Achievements include: - Developed and maintained a one million dollar laboratory budget and managed day-to-day operations with 12 engineers, designers, laboratory technicians and coop students.- - Created a printed circuit board design group to control this key function internally.- The R&D Lab helped develop and qualify the industry’s first category 6 connector and 10 Gigabit category 6 solutions- Helped develop and validate the first commercially available category 7 connector (Siemon Tera Connector). Coordinated an international effort to get the design standardized by the International Electrotechnical Committee (IEC). Was project leader and editor of the standard that was published in 2003 (IEC 61076-3-104)- Editor of connector clause specifying Siemon Tera connector (ISO/IEC 15018) published in June 2004.- Project Leader and Editor of industrial RJ45 connector standardization project (IEC 61076-3-106). Leading international effort to get the standard published and get the Siemon connector within IEC 61076-3-106 chosen by ISO/IEC as industrial connector standard.- Planned and implemented the first Siemon international laboratory in Shanghai China. Hired to help re-engineer the former Test Lab into global reliability center. Charged with implementing and enforcing new reliability and validation programs, tracking methods, new guidelines for the overall function of the lab from requesting test projects, standardizing test methods, tracking progress, reporting results and failures, assigning technicians, and presenting data in standardized formats, decreasing returns and safety issues..Responsible for implementing Reliability testing principles to enhance the Quality of new products up front through the use of reliability growth testing, End of Life testing, and Reliability Modeling for warranty assessment on electro-mechanical products. Participated in design reviews, FMEA’s and safety reviews for all products.Responsible for balancing the Reliability Center resources in order to satisfy the multiple internal customers (Business Teams) within Black & Decker US and international facilities. This included managing equipment and twelve full-time Senior Technicians, multiple temporary technicians and four engineers. Implemented global procedures and implemented training in various factory lab locations. Responsible for developing budget (1 million plus), hiring and firing all full-time and temporary personnel as well as conducting their performance reviews. Managed three reliability engineers and 8 to 12 technicans.Manage daily testing to ensure tests are conducted to accepted methods or sound scientific processes. The project workload consists of an average of 60 to 80 projects and an average of over 500 individual tests at any given time. Responsible for ensuring tests were conducted in timely and efficient manors according to the newly established Lab guidelines. Responsible for managing tests for submittal and review by Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. Also participated in standards development with the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers.
