I got there because I wanted to understand physics, but it turns out mathematicians know no physics and physicists know just enough math to do what they want to do. Luckily—and much to my wife's chagrin—my dormant interest in physics has rearisen. Sexy buzzwords in which I have non-trivial interest (and have fanciful mathematical models, ostensibly connecting many of them):(Exotic) 2D materials, fractional quantum Hall effect, quasiparticles, topological quantum computing, topological and conformal field theory; hyperuniformity, self-organizing criticality, SUSY stochastic PDEs, scale invariance, BRST (BV) quantization (reduction).Sadly, the math I was once doing has gone rather off the rails—or, perhaps, has just split into many, highly divergent, areas. Looks like the good ones got into the more Poisson-type integrable systems theory. Ain't nobody got time for, uh, doubly quantum toroidal double affine Hecke algebras over the 2-adics. Or Nichols algebras, whatever on earth those are (or were; I feel like they're *so* last month).
