The mission of the Defense Security Service was to protect critical technology and classified information in approximately 13,000 commercial facilities across the country. Completely transformed DSS methods to secure critical technology and classified information from a cookie cutter, compliance-based methodology to one that was risk based, fed by intelligence, and tailored to each facility and technology. Developed and began implementing the concept of “Delivering Uncompromised,” to weave security throughout the lifecycle of an acquisition and making it profitable for companies to invest more in the securing their technology and information. Implemented a new methodology for background investigations designed to speed up the security clearance process while increasing the level of security. Thus far 1.1 million people are enrolled in the new process. Enhanced business and counterintelligence analysis to prevent foreign intelligence services from tampering with the supply chains of national security systems and prevent the theft of critical technology and classified information. Developed a strategy to begin monitoring the handling of Controlled Unclassified Information in more than 100,000 companies across the US. Developed and began implementing new methodology to act as an early warning system when adversary countries are attempting to use cyber techniques to steal technology within the Defense Industrial Base.
