Country Desk Officer and Policy Advisor at the Office of the Secretary of Defense. Leads negotiation with the Ministry of National Defense (MND) of the Peoples Republic of China (PRC) to establish and manage an annual plan of defense contacts and exchanges that further U.S. national, defense and security interest. Prepares senior Defense and Military leaders for engagement with foreign defense and military leaders. Represents the Department of Defense at U.S. government interagency planning and policy meetings. Develops, reviews and approves policy, strategies and plans related to China and the East Asian region. Oversees execution of an annual program of defense contacts and exchanges that spans across multiple geographic combatant commands, all military services and several defense agencies.

U.S. Army Armor Officer. 1993-2003 operational Armor, Cavalry and Infantry assignments including deployments to or service in Kuwait, Korea, Bosnia, and Afghanistan, and service in the First Cavalry Division, Second Infantry Division, Third Infantry Division (Mechanized) and US Army Armor Center. Assignments including: Infantry Mortar Platoon Leader, Abrams Tank Platoon Leader (First Unit Equipped with M1A2 digitized tanks), Tank Company Executive Officer, Assistant Battalion Operations Officer, Battalion Logistics Officer, Battalion Operations Officer, Tank and Mechanized Infantry Company/Team Commander, Cavalry Troop Commander, Small Group Instructor. 2003-2015 strategic assignments as a Foreign Area Officer focused on greater China, including deployments to Afghanistan and service in the People's Republic of China.

Assistant Army Attache; Principal Deputy for Managing Bilateral Defense Relations; Responsible for oversight and management of all DoD Scholar programs in China, a.k.a. "FAO-Daddy"; lead coordinator for Secretary of Defense and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff counterpart visits to China;

Senior Military Analyst, China Military Capabilities (2008-2010); Team Chief, Cross Strait Political-Military Affairs (2007-2008).

Small Group Instructor/Advisor, Mobile Training Team. Teaching battalion and brigade staff organization, decision making process, planning process, combined arms operations, etc. Also served as a unit mentor to an assigned Afghan National Army (ANA) unit.

Certified platform instructor for 6-month mid-career professional training focused on core culture, skills, knowledge, and attributes of mid-level leaders in the organization for next 10 years of an officer's career. Focused on leadership, subordinate development, planning and managing operations, operational art, combined arms tactics, decision making and staff planning processes, unit training program development, etc.

Including 6-month deployment to Bosnia as a regional security commander conducting stability operations, enforcing peace agreement compliance, enforcing separation of former warring factions, and supporting legitimacy of local governance and security forces during post-war stability and reconstruction operations.
