Dan Read began his career in engineering as a teenager where Dan won the Young Engineer of Derby competition in 1982 aged 13, indentured as a Trainee Plater/Welder at British Rail Engineering Limited way back in 1986. During the early years of work, Dan was engaged in the production of various Bogies for the rail industry, post apprenticeship, Dan would help in the training of the latest intake of apprentices. Continuing through his engineering career Dan worked at several specialist engineering workshops eventually rising to the position of ‘workshop foreman’ whilst employed at LOC Maintenance. LOC, specialised in bespoke steelwork for Rolls Royce sites including structural steelwork and machine removal. Since 1999, Dan was employed as the principle Outdoor Education Instructor by Derby City Council. This work involved training teaching staff in the delivery of DoE expeditions, management and delivery of all aspects of adventurous activities, along with managing a busy work load and a staff team of 5. Since Jan 2012, Dan has been involved with the evolution of accredited work experience programmes designed to reduce costs to both education and industry through Engineered Learning
