At my request, I finished my thirteen years at Gordon as a full-time teacher in the English Department. There I taught Western Literature, Russian Literature, and Shakespeare.

As Academic Dean, all 20+ department chairs reported to me, as did the Registrar, Director of Library Services, Director of the Academic Support Center, and the Coordinator of Summer Programs. I chaired or served on as many as ten committees, worked with department chairs on planning and budging as well as personnel issues. During my tenure, I served in 2013 as interim provost and in my final year as dean, I also served as interim Chair of the Music Department.

I worked with faculty and administrators to invite speakers to campus, plan programs and conferences, work with CCS staff to manage events, and oversaw the planning, budgeting, and scheduling of programs.

I served as the first Executive Director of CIVA and organized its first office and organizational systems at Gordon College. After serving in this position for one year, I became the Director of the Center for Christian Studies at Gordon and served on the board of CIVA for the following six years.

I served as Headmaster of this K-12 college preparatory school for eight years. During my tenure the school grew from around 1200 students to almost 1600. We built a new upper school building that is over 70,000 square feet and a new lower school building that is over 60,000 square feet. We over doubled the minority student population and added a number of minority faculty. We increased technology significantly and hired the first two full-time technology support staff.

I joined the faculty and administration of The Dallas Institute where I both taught and worked as an administrator. The Institute is home for those who enjoy reading, thinking, exploring, and discussing timeless ideas that make us most fully human. I taught in The Teachers Academy of the Institute both in the month-long summer institutes for teachers and in the graduate accredited courses during the academic year. I taught English and Bible to students 9-12 and served as sponsor for various student organizations. I chaired the English Department and served as Curriculum Coordinator in which position I helped lead a major curriculum reform that integrated the study of history and literature into a double-credit, double-period course taught by a single teacher. We also increased the requirements in mathematics, foreign language, science, and fine arts.

I founded and directed The Carpenter's Workshop, a Christian study center for post-high school adults to take time out to study and reflect on their faith and vocations, values and goals. I taught two of the four strands of the curriculum: biblical and cultural studies. In addition, Dr. Phil Hook taught a course in theology and Bob Buford held seminars on values and goals. While studying for my Ph.D., I also served with my wife as Dormitory Directors and later as Assistant Dean of Students. In a program that did not use graduate assistants, I was honored to be invited to teach Biblical Texts in the Theology Department and the freshman Literary Tradition course in the English Department. I also helped start and sponsor an InterVarsity chapter.

I served as a student staff and interim Director for the Young Life programs in Evansville, Indiana while doing my undergraduate work at the University of Evansville. I served as student staff for the Bryan Adams Young Life Club while doing my first year of graduate work at Dallas Theological Seminary.

I served as youth minister for the First Presbyterian Church, teaching and counseling over 100 senior and junior highs students in this church with a location in the heart of the city and another in the suburbs. I regularly helped conduct the three Sunday services and occasionally preached.
