Through the cooperative efforts and the dedication of the faculty, we have developed an analytical research center called the Materials Instrumentation Center (MIC). The primary purpose of the MIC is to support the research activities of the faculty of Lamar University by providing sophisticated, yet reliable, state-of-the-art instrumentation. The MIC is also available to assist business ventures in solving sophisticated scientific problems as well as support for the research activities at other universities. The MIC is housed within the Texas Centers for Technology Incubation or TCTI. The mission of TCTI is to serve as the research, development and incubator arm for economic development and enhancement of industries in East Texas and the Gulf Coast. TCTI's primary focus is to support the economic and scientific development of emerging and established industries.The MIC provides SEM and other consulting that are of publication quality, and we have research collaborations with local business partners here in Southeast Texas. Considering the center has access to a diverse engineering faculty to provide answers to any process or technical issues a client may have, we provide services beyond the typical commercial analytical labs.

My responsibility was working for a fuel cell project funded by the Department of Defense. The project involved fuel cell system integration and product development with our commercial/military aerospace partners. I also was the lead Analytical Chemist using state of the art X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy to characterize potential fuel cell catalysts. I developed and implemented the QC program and developed an understanding of government contract business.

Drafted and implemented a corporate wide QC/QA laboratory-training manual to ensure a consistent knowledge base for technical personnel.Served as lead company Industrial Hygienist at various petrochemical facilities which led to long term service contracts and major local market share of outsourced IH services.Supervised and trained field technicians in five branch offices in Industrial Hygiene assessments and prepared all reports for CIH approval which resulted in faster turnaround and improved customer satisfaction.I also directly supported our business culture to develop protocols and methods for new product development through a Fortune 500 company partnership. Led design team of engineers in implementing Phase I and II site assessments and performed financial risk assessment of future areas of business such as wastewater analysis and other laboratory services.
