Profile bio

About Dan Altman

I am a M.S. student studying Electrical and Computer Engineering: Robotics at the University of Michigan College of Engineering. I am looking to gain experience and knowledge through hands-on robotics projects. Recently, I graduated with my bachelor's in mechanical engineering at Umich. Throughout my years at Umich, I have worked for multiple labs on the development of robots and other mechatronic systems for more information you can search below. When working, I love to collaborate with others in developing robots from ideation to final product and I hope to work on biologically inspired robots in the future. As of now, I have solid knowledge and experience in robots, and I especially enjoy the design and analysis side of robotics. I am looking for internships in robotics (and or mechatronics) in design, manufacturing, assembly, and other associated steps. As a worker, I am friendly, and collaborative but also self-sufficient, Furthermore, I am always up for a challenge and will strive for success in whatever I am tackling. Feel free to contact me at altmands@umich.edu.

Biologically Inspired Robotics And Dynamical Systems (Birds) Lab

Ann Arbor, Michigan, United States

BIRDS Lab is a research lab at the University of Michigan under Professor Shai RevzenMy work was to design and prove an inexpensive, open-source gravity compensation rig for evaluating legged robot performance in low-gravity environments. After completing the design (CAD), I fabricated the rig using commonly-available rapid-fabrication techniques and inexpensive stock materials such as ABS and foamcore sheets. The rig’s performance was evaluated using other robots within the BIRDS lab.

The mechanism is comprised of a plastic piece and a steel plate. The updated design was intended to change the attaching/detaching mechanism from a rotational motion to a linear one. Successive iterations were made for the purpose including, decreasing the difficulty of locking the two pieces together
