Dan Saunders' practice focuses on jury trials and arbitrations in a variety of complex business litigation, entertainment, and white collar cases, as well as regulatory and compliance matters and internal investigations. He has tried more than 40 jury trials and arbitrations and has briefed and/or argued more than 50 appeals before the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, with an outstanding record of success. Dan’s recent noteworthy representations include actress Scarlett Johansson in litigation against Disney over the day-and-date streaming release of the movie “Black Widow”; the stars and creator of the hit television series “Bones” in a profit-participation arbitration against Fox, which resulted in a record-breaking $179 million arbitration award for Dan’s clients; an independent film producer under investigation by the FBI and IRS for conducting an alleged Ponzi scheme, as to whom Dan successfully persuaded the government to close their investigation with no filing of charges.Dan has been recognized as a top practitioner by Benchmark Litigation, Best Lawyers and by Super Lawyers for 11 consecutive years (2011-2021). He has also been recognized in Variety's "Legal Impact Report," which spotlights leading attorneys in the entertainment industry.Dan served for 14 years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Los Angeles, where he was lead counsel in many high-profile cases, including the successful six-year investigation and RICO/wiretapping prosecution of private investigator Anthony Pellicano and his associates. As Deputy Chief of the Violent and Organized Crime Section, Dan supervised a section of more than 20 Assistant United States Attorneys in their investigations, charging decisions, case dispositions and trials. Dan received the Prosecutor of the Year Award from the Los Angeles County Bar Association and the Department of Justice’s Director’s Award for Superior Performance as an Assistant U.S. Attorney. Dan was a professor of constitutional law and criminal procedure for seven years at Glendale University College of Law. He has lectured on the American criminal justice system and prosecution of organized crime, money laundering, and public corruption cases at international conferences in Romania, Moldova, the Czech Republic, and the International Law Enforcement Academy in Budapest, Hungary. Dan has also written and spoken widely on the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, electronic privacy intrusion, conducting internal corporate investigations, and other issues. Dan clerked for U.S. Circuit Judge Robert Boochever.
