I have been working in the fisheries field for 38 years in a variety of management and research positions. Until recently, my work arena has centered largely within the salmonid arena with longstanding involvement in special regulations. Key career accomplishments include a variety of hooking mortality studies, oversight of a statewide sterile fish program for protecting native salmonids, inspiring and overseeing a statewide angler tag-reporting program for estimating unbiased estimates of angler exploitation (for any sportfish species), design and oversight of hatchery: wild trout competition studies, and most recently development of YY Male broodstocks for eradication of invasive species. I am passionate about science and how the process works in the fishery management arena. My personal research approach is to attack management challenges proactively and in the most simplistic manner possible to maximize decision-maker and public understanding, and thus support for findings. I conduct research to be used by management, hence my business name (Fisheries Management Solutions) a title I did not choose lightly as it reflects my entire research philosophy in three words.
