Dan Silverstein provides strategic advice on private sector engagement, capital markets, and impact investments in agricultural and economic development to USAID, donor aid agencies, embassies, ministries, research centers, universities, and corporations. He was referred by Catherine Bertini, former Executive Director of the UN World Food Programme, to serve as its private sector advisor in New York. His unique ability to address both development issues and private sector interests evolved from skills honed at such Wall Street firms as Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette; Merrill Lynch; and Oppenheimer, et al. where he advised high net worth investors including Triple Crown Winner Seattle Slew's owners, principals of Calvin Klein, and Major League Baseball executives. He has demonstrated his understanding of the power and impact of marketing communications in senior management positions at Hill & Knowlton Public Relations, Edelman PR, and International Management Group (now part of Endeavor).Dan also is an Adjunct Professor at The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC where he teaches graduate-level courses on the international politics of hunger and nutritional security. He serves on advisory boards at Tufts Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy, Iowa State University, the Hillwood Estate and is invited to participate in high-level, off-the-record advisory sessions at the National Academy of Sciences, the Center for Strategic and International Studies, and other international development organizations. Dan’s career has prepared him to offer broad insights and precise understandings of how enlightened private sector engagement can be a catalyst to improve the lives of vulnerable people.
