I've been in the Broadcasting industry for 28 years. I worked for Regent Broadcasting / Townsquare Media (WGRD - WLHT - WFGR - WTRV - WNWZ) here in Grand Rapids, MI. I have been mostly a Broadcast Personality, but have held the titles and duties of Station Manager, Operations Manager, Morning Show Host, Program Director, Production Manager Copywriter, Assistant Engineer, Chief Operator, Office Manager, Receptionist, and Sales. I have done all the above simultaneously. An endeavor I do not ever want to embark on again. (WLDR, WOUF, WCUZ, WBNZ). I've also been on stations WCCW, WFCX, WKPK, WSRT, WGLQ, WTIQ (and several others). I miss Radio Broadcasting, before it was taken-over by corporations who bought said stations, then decided fire 99% of the staff, end "operating within public interest", and stoped caring about their stations (and their people). Bless the FCC's deregulation of 1996!Specialties: Broadcast personality and all aspects of Broadcast industry for almost three decades. Also had the duties of station promotions, though, I like to leave that for the interns. Other Specialties: licensed HVAC-R Technician, Electrician with emphasis on computer integrated elecro-mechanical hydraulics & pneumatics. As a single father of a Son, I have always had to work more than one job at a time. (help for single fathers didn't exist back then). It was actually fun repairing HVAC equipment, or, Driving semi-truck all day then changing in the bathroom (or cab of a truck) and going on the air for the next 4 hours, then getting off the air, running down the street to be a bartender until almost sunrise. While on the radio, I studied my book-work then hustled as soon as my air-shift ended to school (NW Regional Firefighter Training Center) and earned my Firefighter I&II, HazMat Operations, Vehicle Extrication, and other forms of rescue. I also earned my license in medical as a "First Responder" with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.

One In Particular Sticks Out...
I had to hire and train an Office Manager, Receptionist, Sales Manager, News Director, Morning Show Co-Host and a cleaning lady. I created from scratch and hosted “The Morning Train Wreck” morning show for the 5:30am - 10am slot, while performing all the duties listed above simultaneously, alone by myself. I quickly got accustomed to working 14-17 hour days. I also found pleasure in working with our Broadcast Engineers, Dennis Murray, Jack Leishman and even from thousands of miles away, Fred Hannel. Fred could talk me through darn near anything over the phone. "Hey, when no one will answer their phone and your all alone, call Fred!" He saved me many times during my career. I started my career in Radio Broadcasting when I was 14 years old. My first duty was digging a 35 foot long trench, 6 feet deep, to run a new nitrogen pressurized coax cable from the transmitter shack, then underground, then up the 350 foot tower.

Not knowing (or questioning) why there was no one else working there (former staff), I had to hire and train an Office Manager, Sales Manager, News Director, receptionist, Morning Show co-Host, Production assistant and cleaning personnel, all while maintaining the duties of keeping 5 stations on the air & operational. This required personally driving hundreds of miles to perform maintenance, programming, HVAC work, structural repairs, swapping out transmitters and other broadcast equipment in blizzards. As there was no staff in existence for those 100% automated station as well. I created from scratch and hosted “The Morning Train Wreck” morning show for the 5:30am - 10am slot, while performing all the duties listed above simultaneously. I quickly got accustomed to working 14-17 hour days. Notable accomplishment of increasing ratings and a substantial increase in sales. Also, several other duties that I will be happy to share in person. Responsible for hiring and training a complete staff in every job position. Although, I had to let a couple people go, I ended-up with a very well-rounded staff, who worked smart, learned the functions of their positions and made certain that the company flowed efficiently. I eventually found out why the prior staff walked out, all at the same time, as I was running WLDR, WOUF, WCUZ, WBNZ, KULF & KNRG) (I will explain in person, if it hasn't already been researched via the internet).
