I ran my own voiceover, writing and audio production company for 29 years under the snappy name DN and AE Strauss Ltd.My work as a producer on ELT audio productions grew out of my voice over experience. I produced multiple Cambridge University Press projects using large casts. I also worked on a big, 4 year long project for China via CUP which involved a huge cast of children. As a voiceover, I was the Channel voice for Animal Planet and wrote and voiced my own material without a break every other day of the year for 21 years. I was the voice of Discovery Channel throughout the Middle East, Africa, Turkey and India for 15 years and the European and UK voice of Discovery Knowledge and Discovery History for 17 years. For 8 years I was the sole Continuity announcer and writer on UKTV Food (later becoming the Food Network). As a TV voiceover I was the launch voice of the National Lottery and featured across all the terrestrial channels as a Promo voice: BBC 1 and 2, ITV and Channel 4. I cut my teeth in the voiceover world working for Commercial Radio stations across the UK, beginning by travelling to individual stations before moving to a home studio. Straight after teaching I worked extensively in BBC Radio Light Entertainment, culminating as a regular voice actor on the legendary topical weekly sketch show Weekending. As an actor on TV, I appeared in the Paul Merton sketch show, the Omid Djalili show, Gimme, Gimme, Gimme, The Bill, Doctors, and a range of other BBC and ITV prime time productions.
