I started my career back in 2008 as an apprentice Civil Engineer, rotating around the relevent departments at Durham County Council, this included; Highway Maintenance, Highway Design and Public Transport.I currently work within the drainage and coastal protection team at Durham County Council and hold the position of assistant area engineer.As assistant engineer, my main responsibility is to investigate and recommend solutions to land drainage, flood management and coastal protection issues to help reduce local flood risk. I also assist in the role and duties of the SuDS Approving Body function. To carry out these responsibilities I have gained relevant on site experience including; site investigation activities, topographical surveying, setting out, and site supervision. My Most recent qualification is a First Class Honours Degree in Civil Engineering, I hope to return to university to study for my MSc with the aim to become a chartered engineer.In my current office i am privileged with been able to carry my schemes from design stage to full implementation, within the design scheme I predominantly use Micro Drainage for Hydraulic modelling and Civil 3D for creating new surfaces/ structures to protect against flooding. I also work on and mostly enjoy designing new roads for small developments, this includes the new horizontal and vertical alignments giving me a proposed terrain to design the drainage/SuDS around.
