As an Assistant Director at Serco I am responsible for a number of roles, which include;- Functional work, creating strategies and setting direction for our staff- Carrying out the role of Duty Director, including evenings, on-call and weekends,. In this role I am responsible for the overall effective operation of the establishment during the 24 hour period I am designated.- Incident Silver Commander accredited - Able to effectively run a Command Suite during an incident which could range from a incident at height, a death in custody, hostage incident or loss of essential services.- Adjudication trained. On a rota basis, able to carry out and deal with minor offences, some of which will be referred to the police and some will be referred to an independent judge .

I began my career as an Officer and spent 6 years in this role, working on a busy residential unit responsible for caring for those who were most at risk of suicide or self-harm. I then commenced a role working within the Segregation Unit, whereby I was required to utilise my inter-personal skills on a regular basis due to the cliental that was housed within.I then took up post as a Supervising Officer and was tasked with running the Induction Wing, which housed men who had just arrived within the prison and were understandably more vulnerable/anxious about their stay. I also spent time as the S/O on the Stabilisation/Detox Unit before beginning a temporary promotion as a Custodial Manager within Safer Custody and covering Orderly Officer duties in 2015.Following successful completion of the Orderly Officer/COM JSAC assessment centre, I then applied and was successful on interview to commence the post of Custodial Manager at HMIRC Morton Hall. As an Immigration Centre holding up to 400 detainees, this was a role which was far removed from the norm of a prison officer and we had to find a number of creative ways in which to interact and maintain a balance of security, decency, stability and respect to those men who resided there.I was temporarily promoted to Band 7, Head of Residence and Services in 2017 and went on to pass my Operational Managers JSAC in the same year.
