Duties• Working mostly as groundsman, as well as operating aerial lifts and tree climbing to manage trees.• performing maintenance of trees and shrubs for municipal, residential and commercial clients; including tree/shrub removals and pruning, tree/shrub deep-root fertilization, tree injections, pesticide applications, and insect and disease management.• Ash tree management, including removals and treatments for Emerald Ash Borer.• Providing considerable expertise in tree identification, tree disease/damage assessment and treatment, invasive/exotic tree and shrub management, and arboriculture.

• Planning and implementing ecological restoration projects.• Conducting and coordinating terrestrial monitoring programs.• Planning and implementing Trees Ontario 50 Million Tree Program and Ontario Power Generation tree planting projects. • Researching and applying invasive/exotic woody and herbaceous plant species management techniques.• Supervising field technicians and greenhouse workers.• Seed collecting, cleaning, storing, propagating and field planting native woody and herbaceous plants for use in ecological restoration projects.• Data management, collection and assessment.• Keeping records of daily timesheets and financial information.• Preparing project quotes and assisting with proposals.• Representing the company in various meetings with clients and partners on occasion.

Terrestrial and wetland biophysical assessments, biological inventory and monitoring required detailed investigations of terrestrial and wetland environments according to provincial methodologies, standards and protocols. Identification of flora species, determination of existing conditions, assessment of potential impacts, and development of mitigation measures was performed. Project experience includes:• EARTHQUEST Biological Field School, Cavendish Park, London, Ontario and Pinecroft Forest, Aylmer, Ontario, Catalogued and documented all flora and fauna species, implementing various census/survey techniques, including Ecological Land Classificatiion (ELC) and Point Count surveys of birds, and amphibian monitoring surveys.• Botanical Inventory of Glencolin Tract, Aylmer, Ontario, in association with Earthquest Canada for the Environment and Catfish Creek Conservation Authority, Independently surveyed a 40 acre tract of forest over a period of a week documenting all flora species, specifically searching for any Species at Risk that may exist in a large enough population that would possibly modify proposed logging operations of the Glencolin Tract. Produced a list of over 225 vascular plant species including one Species at Risk - American Chestnut (Castanea dentata) and one species previously unrecorded for Elgin County – Scots Elm (Ulmus glabra).• Biological Inventory of the Bruce Trail, Owen Sound and Cape Chin, Ontario, in association with Earthquest Canada for the Environment and the Bruce Trail Project, Independently surveyed all flora species existing on approximately 60 kilometers of Bruce Trail that was previously unevaluated by Earthquest Canada for the Bruce Trail Project. Worked and camped in remote areas for 11 days. Produced a list of over 30 plants new to the Bruce Trail Project along with 4 regionally rare plants, 3 of which were previously unrecorded for the counties of Grey and Bruce.

• Managed ecological restoration technicians on a variety of projects in southern Ontario. • Organized daily schedule, transported crew to and from site, kept records and timesheets. • Planted native trees, shrubs, grasses, sedges and wildflowers.• Conducted invasive/exotic tree, shrub and herbaceous species management with and without the aid of herbicides. • Conducted ecological monitoring of the restoration sites.
