For 30 years I worked in the communications field, working in the communications center, worked special assignments such as state fairs, man hunts, Gubernatorial Inaugurations, different types of historical events, NASCAR races and these type of functions. All of this work was done from the confines of a mobile command bus which I had been trained to drive, set up and operate.For the last 2 years of my service, I transferred to the Motor Carrier unit where I was trained to inspect any commercial carrying vehicles where the company had been issued a USDOT number. The inspections also included auditing the company's files to assure that drivers time logs are being maintained properly. These files also includes such things as vehicle maintenance, drug testing files, shipping and receiving files, employment applications and background checks and making sure these audits are performed during the appropriate time frame. if any violations were discovered during these audits or when performing roadside inspections, I was authorized to issue civil violation citations which also included prohibiting the vehicle from being driven anymore until the violation was corrected and fine was paid
