About Dana Alsamsam

I am an award-winning, strategic fundraiser and wordsmith, currently working as the Assistant Director of Annual Giving at Massachusetts College of Art and Design. I am dedicated to fundraising for higher education and the arts! My specialties are creative copywriting, digital fundraising innovation, and arts-specific fundraising strategy. In addition, I run a business as a freelance book editor and would love to work with you on your next book. I gravitate towards environments with rich cultural and artistic presence as I am a fundraiser by day and an interdisciplinary poet, dancer, editor, and choreographer by night. In fact, I've dedicated my career to the arts organizations and institutions that serve cultural hubs, and make art accessible to a wider audience. I'm thrilled that I can combine my personal passion for the arts with my career goals. In my current role at Massachusetts College of Art and Design, I am a key leader for the annual fund, the department expert in digital fundraising, and the primary touchpoint for student relationships across campus. Many MassArt students are first generation or low income, and rely on scholarship support provided by the annual fund to receive an accessible arts education. Coordinating campaigns such as giving days, phonathon, crowdfunding, digital fundraising appeals, and more, directly supports that effort. In light of the global coronavirus pandemic, I played a vital role in quickly and successfully pivoting our strategies where my digital fundraising and communications skills were essential, and recently won a CASE award in the "fundraising pivot" category as well as a Virginia Carter Smith Scholarship for demonstrating significant promise in this field. In the past, I've also worked at local nonprofits such as Boston Ballet, Mass Poetry, and Ploughshares where I used my flexibility and adaptability to work with anything from corporate donor relations, fundraising events, digital marketing, and program administration.

Through this work I increased the open and click rates on Mass Poetry emails by ~15%.
