The Office of Sustainability establishes agency-wide sustainability policy and leads initiatives to achieve our greenhouse gas reduction targets. I am responsible for identification of initiatives that will help achieve Port Authority’s greenhouse gas reduction targets, across all lines of business and facilities, for both PANYNJ direct emissions (Scope 1 and 2) and emissions attributed to tenant activities (Scope 3). My major areas of focus include: • Transition to zero-emissions vehicles and equipment • On-site renewable energy • Renewable energy credits (RECs) and carbon offsets • Advancing use of biofuels (renewable diesel, sustainable aviation fuel) • Sustainable airport redevelopment

Responsible for complete project management and regulatory oversight of brownfields and hazardous waste disposal sites being investigated, remediated, and redeveloped under New York State cleanup programs. Other work includes providing environmental guidance for community organizations developing neighborhood revitalization plans, through the New York State Brownfield Opportunity Areas Program; advising the Healthy Soils, Healthy Communities project on urban soil contamination and gardening in urban soils; leading the Sustainability Team for the NYC Regional Office of DEC; and managing and training junior staff.

As recipient of an Environmental Policy Fellowship through the Council of Women World Leaders, I worked with both the UNEP Senior Gender Adviser and the Division of Environmental Policy Implementation to examine existing water scarcity and adaptation to climate change-induced water stress in Africa, and the intersection of these issues with traditional gender roles.

Made recommendations for policy actions to implement a comprehensive restoration plan for Jamaica Bay and the larger Hudson-Raritan Estuary. Researched ecological conditions, assessed successes and limitations of ongoing planning and restoration efforts, and reviewed existing federal policies and appropriations for similar scale projects. Also performed research and compilation of key facts and MOLTPS talking points on proposed hydraulic fracturing in NY State.

Project engineer for several municipal water supply projects as consulting engineer for Water Corporation of Western Australia. Project management and oversight of design team and subcontractors, hydraulic analysis and modeling of distribution systems, design of water supply infrastructure, and preparation of design drawings, specifications, cost estimates and environmental and construction permits. Also performed research and prepared feasibility analysis of water supply options for a new iron ore mine in the remote Pilbara region, an arid location with no existing water supply infrastructure.

Engineering design of water treatment infrastructure, drafting conceptual design reports and technical memoranda, preparation of construction specifications, and coordination of project engineers, scientists, CAD designers, and subcontractors to produce construction drawings.
