It’s my absolute pleasure to write a letter of recommendation for Dana Roach. I thoroughly enjoy my time working with Dana and believe she has been an incredible asset to not only our program but the educational landscape as a whole. In my role as teacher coach to Dana, I have found that she is an incredibly leader that challenges herself to look at her classroom and school community through a culturally responsive lens and has the skills and ability to successfully execute on initiatives that would provide access to broader opportunities for students.
Dana has demonstrated incredible ability to achieve impact both in and outside of her classroom. Inside her classroom, she works relentlessly to accomplish the class vision of, “Read critically. Write consciously. Speak clearly.” While working in a community that has limited resources, she assessed the needs of her students and understood that in order for students to have access to broader opportunities they must have the skills necessary to be college ready. Dana faced the challenge of not being given an ELA curriculum but she eagerly took this challenge on as a stretch opportunity. She designed her curriculum to not only reflect the skills and characteristics that she hoped her students would embody through her class vision, but also designed a rigorous curriculum that deeply engaged students with the content and skills needed for success in her course and beyond. She was able to successfully partner with a local community college to provide dual-credit opportunities in which her students writing would be graded by a college board in order to receive credit, and her results were profound. Of the students who applied for the dual credit opportunity, 94% of them were able to successfully earn credit as a result of her curriculum and excellent instruction. Not only did this increase students access, it also increased their confidence and beliefs in their own ability to successfully go on to post-secondary opportunities.
Beyond her classroom, Dana’s results have continually impressed her school administration. She continually advocates for her students and their diverse experiences, ensuring that her students’ are represented in administrative decisions. They look to her strengths as an educator to help lead professional learning communities and make decisions that would most positively impact the school community. I am confident that Dana’s skills, disposition, and mindset will continue to propel her further and any organization would be fortunate to have her.
Please feel free to contact me if you’d like to discuss Dana’s qualifications and experience further.
Best,
