Several years ago, while we were both working in the museum community, we realized that there was a great need for advocacy at all levels- local, state and national in the small museum community. After some research and speaking with local organizations, we found that while many of the people that we talked to appreciated the need for advocacy, they didn't have the resources to implement a program. We decided that we wanted to help anyone who wanted to learn how to advocate for their cultural site. We believe that in today's society, where private funding is difficult to obtain and public funding is under constant attack, advocacy is a key skill that all organizations can benefit from. No matter what side of the aisle you fall on, all elected officials need to hear your voice.

I recently left my position as the director of the Bedford Museum, located in Bedford, Ohio. The Bedford Historical Society was founded in 1955 with the mission to collect, interpret and preserve the history of Bedford, the Bedford Township and portions of the Western Reserve. We operate four museum buildings in downtown Historic Bedford, Ohio.
