I supervised a staff of reporters and editors to constantly upload content on to bgnews.com and publish three print editions a week, while also frequently writing and designing.I worked at The BG News from my first day on campus as a freshman to the day I graduated, so when I became Editor-in-Chief my senior year, I knew there were things I wanted to change about The BG News.When I came on in the fall, I instated a beat system, created an investigative reporting team and upped our social media and web presence.During my year as editor-in-chief, the paper had content on the web or in print daily and writes an investigative story a week. We had more than 4,000 followers on Twitter and tweeted several times a day.During my time at The BG News, I learned how to upload content to the web using a content management system, take photos with a DSLR, take and edit video using Final Cut and iMovie, design and lay out pages and more. I was also able to sharpen my writing, reporting and editing skills.My experience at The BG News was invaluable and I have already used several of the skills I learned during college to enhance the professional newsrooms I have worked in thus far. My first passion is reporting and writing, but I also enjoy editing, designing, uploading content and managing social media and I'm willing to do anything to help every news team I'm a part of with anything I can.

I started working at The BG News the first day of my freshman year at Bowling Green State University. While working there, I have written many articles and had many positions. My experience at The BG News has been the most valuable learning experience I have had in journalism. I worked as a paid, full-time reporter for the summer and reported on health, science, state news and more.My best experience at the Dispatch was covering a murder-suicide in Jackson, Ohio. I made the drive from the Dispatch to Jackson and covered the story on the scene. It was great experience talking to the police and trying to track down the names of the two young boys who were involved in the shooting. Covering the story made me more confident in my ability to report breaking news, as I was the first reporter to confirm the names of the two victims and the Dispatch printed them before any other news source and before the police released them. For three months, I worked solely as a freelance reporter and took several stories for The Troy Daily News. Once I went back to school, I continued to take as many stories as I could. Being a freelance reporter has helped me explore reporting on different topics and covering meetings.
