About Dana Grob Seligman

I used to look forward to doing logic homework. It's probably the nerdiest thing about me (on a long list of nerdy things about me). To this day, my friends make fun of me for how animated I would get when I solved a particularly complex proof. Maybe that should have been the English major’s first clue that she was destined for a more technical career... that, or the fact that at my previous position in SEO, I found myself dreading fluffy content-related tasks and looking forward to anything involving Excel formulas, API documentation, CMS tinkering, QA, task automation, Regex and yep, you guessed it, logic. So I did the most natural thing an ex-lit major could do to pivot to a more technical field: I began a Master's in Linguistics. Hold up, how is Linguistics a technical field, you ask? Well, rooted in mathematical logic, Linguistics draws on concepts in computer science, cognitive science, mathematics, statistics, neuroscience, psychology, and more. I have studied, in-depth, set theory, model theory, information theory, lambda calculus, and more without even knowing I was doing so. But the real kicker was when I was given my first homework in my first Python course at the university. I suddenly had a very familiar feeling. The logic homework feeling. The adrenaline-filled, finally-solved-it feeling. I was hooked. Reader, I still am. It all comes down to this: I love puzzles and I am passionate about blending technology, language, and data to solve them. I have experience in Python, C, HTML, and CSS, as well as experience in NLP and I am currently adding additional programming languages (JavaScript, SQL, and Flask) and concepts (machine learning) into the mix. I am an insatiable learner with incredible self-discipline and always looking for a challenge and to enrich my skills with more languages, frameworks, and principles. So while my path to a technical career wasn’t the most traditional, my unconventional and diverse perspective colors every problem I face, every knowledge base article I edit, and every line of code I write. I think differently. I learn differently. I code differently. I write differently. And that’s an asset.
