Manufacturing was the right choice for me:After graduating college with a BS in Business Administration Management, I chose to work in the Semiconductor Manufacturing industry. I thought what better way to become a manager than to start from the bottom as a production operator. It wasn't long before I was hooked on everything about manufacturing. The opportunities to learn were all around me. My peers taught me how to do my job and more importantly about their opinions and perspective. It seemed that everyone had ideas about how to do things better on the job and about what was important to them as employees. All too often, however, for many reasons these ideas were never heard. My managers turned out to be walking case studies of what I had learned in school. They seemed to be very effective, even while under stress and when a certain approach failed, I tried to reason why. Teamwork was the best aspect of manufacturing for me. Virtually everyone working there played a critical role in producing quality products for the customers. Later I had my chance at being a supervisor, which had its own set of challenges. Drawing on what I had learned, I very quickly developed my own management style. Mostly though I vowed never to forget about the insight that each and every employee has, and its potential to make improvements to the business. The commitment that many employees show must always be encouraged and rewarded. Manufacturing can be unpredictable though and my job ended due to a site closure. In my next position I took on a Supervisory role in the Aerospace manufacturing industry. This role has also proven to be rewarding and full of its own challenges. However, some constants remained the same at both companies, as they are chocked full of knowledgeable, talented people who are all constantly improving themselves and the business.I look forward to the next opportunity to lead a team in the manufacturing world.
