My role as Food Pantry Assistant is to organize and execute food distribution for our clients, three days a week. This includes scheduling volunteers, delegating tasks to volunteers, overseeing inventory and ordering, creating food pantry bags for distribution, setting up and breaking down food distribution area, communicating with clients and ensuring we are fulfilling their needs, and providing additional support to the Food Pantry Manager.

As the Volunteer Coordinator, I handled most of the administrative work for the organization which included organizing international volunteer placements, generating invoices, submitting visa applications to the local government, and scheduling local accommodation and transport for volunteer arrivals/departures. I led recruitment for all the internship positions within our organization beginning with posting job listings on conservation forums, answering applicant inquiries, and scheduling and conducting interviews. It was also my responsibility to compile all the necessary paperwork for all new staff members' entry to the Maldives as well as provide support leading up to their arrival.I was also in charge of marketing and maintaining positive relationships with our volunteer partner agencies, as well as developing new partnerships with agencies which included coordinating tours of our island and marine centre to give them a first-hand experience of what we had to offer in Naifaru. I maintained the social media platforms by creating content to post weekly and engage with our followers. My most important role was ensuring that our volunteers’ needs were met, which goes beyond providing them an island tour and daily scheduled activities. It required 24/7 support during their placement in an effort to make sure they got the most out of their experience volunteering with our organization. The most rewarding part of my role, however, was the opportunity to participate in turtle rescues and releases, as well as turtle rehabilitation at Atoll Marine Centre. Turtle husbandry skills I learned included feeding the turtles, cleaning their tanks, administering fluid injections and applying medications to open wounds.
