For my thesis studies, I investigated the neural circuitry of the basal ganglia, a region of the brain important for movement and emotional processing. I am particularly interest in translation studies, including deep brain stimulation therapy (DBS). These studies employed a variety of cutting-edge toolsets, including preclinical functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and optogenetics. Studies were conducted in the laboratory of my predoctoral adviser, Dr. Ian Shih (Neurology Department and Biomedical Research Imaging Center).Major Accomplishments:-Independently wrote successful grant proposal, securing federal research funding (NIH)-Lead or Co-lead several research projects, serving as an effective team and project leader-Authored several scientific manuscripts, including one published first-author review article and multiple original research manuscripts in review.
