About Dana Lewis
I founded the open source artificial pancreas movement (known as “OpenAPS”), making safe and effective automated insulin delivery (AID) technology available (sooner) for people with diabetes around the world. I authored the book, "Automated Insulin Delivery: How artificial pancreas “closed loop” systems can aid you in living with diabetes", to help more people understand automated insulin delivery systems, in addition to a series of children's books such as "Understanding Automated Insulin Delivery: A basic book for kids, family, and friends of people living with diabetes". I am now an independent and grant-funded researcher. My research ranges from retrospective data analysis, data science, machine learning, and AI-related work on diabetes data to prospective clinical research trials, such as a recent RCT evaluating the OpenAPS algorithm (now published in NEJM) as safe and effective for adults and children living with diabetes.
