The experimental protocol will be compared with both conventional nonsurgical root canal treatment using chemical irrigation and with laser-assisted nonsurgical root canal treatment using the Waterlase iPlus Er,Cr:YSGG with integrated Epic X diode for disinfection. Essentially, the key comparison is disinfection with the test device that combines Er,Cr:YSGG (2780nm) with 940nm, versus disinfection using these wavelengths in two discrete steps. Protocols will be compared based on: bacterial reduction in root canals; measurement of radiographic healing of periapical lesion via CBCT radiographs; patient-reported outcomes, post-treatment pain, and treatment tolerability on a quantified scale; and side effects and adverse events of treatment.Additional: Oral Health Service Expansion Grant HRSA-16-076Assist in leading training program for physicians about the importance of oral health with emphasis on high-risk clinics (Pediatric, HIV, OB, Diabetes, Cardiovascular). Screen patients in these clinics and teach physicians to screen for oral disease and refer to dental clinics. Enhance medical providers' understanding of the importance of oral health evaluation, particularly for the many high-risk, under-served, and uninsured patients in the Bronx.

Project included preparing and examining keratocystic odontogenic tumor samples for presence of HERV-WL. Techniques frequently used include tissue sectioning, slide preparation, immunohistochemical staining, and microscopy.2012: Worked in laboratory of Dr. Daniel Fine on "Use of salivary markers as predictors of localized aggressive periodontitis." Projects included development of rapid ELISA technique for detection and quantification of human MIP-1a and salivary protein analysis. Additional techniques frequently used include PCR, qPCR, Bradford assay, gel electrophloresis, cell culture, media innoculation, and total DNA purification.
