My responsibility as a pharmacist, practicing in any role in any setting, is to first identify if drug therapy is part of the problem or solution for my patient/s. My approach to any problem (patient specific, departmental or organizational), is to identify if the question or problem is a symptom or result of something else. I then apply systemic and critical thinking skills to delve deep into the details and work to answer the question, “How are we going to get there?” At the team level, department, or organizational level, it is critical to work with others who are or may be impacted. My career is about making a difference in the quality and safety of care for patients in healthcare organizations - through designing and developing department and systems-level, evidence-based organization wide programs and policies. I see how puzzle pieces of an issue or problem fit together as a whole. This directs me to possibilities for the solution. By asking who, what, when, why, and where, multiple times, working with a team including any and all who may be involved or impacted, we get to the root cause and define possible solutions. In my view, true north in an organization is defined by the quality management system, encompassing the organizational structure, policies, procedures, and processes needed to implement and sustain improvements. In turn, these are based on laws, regulations, accreditation standards, and evidence, further guided by rigorous attention to detail and safe medication practices.Summary of experience:• Provision of direct patient care, clinical pharmacy, formulary and medication therapy management, and management of pharmacy operations and pharmacy staff in a variety of hospital and ambulatory care settings. • Expertise includes Customer Service, Program design and management, Resource management (labor and financial), Medication Safety, Medication Use Management, Regulatory and Accreditation Standards Compliance, Lean methodology.
