Dana Murray has over 20 years of professional experience in the environmental field, and is currently the Sustainability Manager for the City of Goleta where she leads the City's sustainability policies and programs related to climate action, renewable energy, climate adaptation and resiliency, and plastic pollution reduction. She was formerly the Environmental Sustainability Manager in Manhattan Beach where she worked on coastal adaptation planning for sea level rise, native habitat restoration, and climate change mitigation. Dana served on the Board of Directors for the Clean Power Alliance of Southern California for over four years, and has been a member of Green Cities California and the Urban Sustainability Directors Network since 2017. Prior to working in local government, Dana worked at several leading environmental non-profit organizations in California. She was the Senior Marine Scientist and Coastal Policy Manager at Heal the Bay where she worked on science and policy issues related to coastal habitats and marine wildlife in California. She developed Los Angeles' MPA Watch citizen science monitoring program, assessing how people use underwater parks, and served as Co-Chair of the L.A. Marine Protected Areas Collaborative. Completing hundreds of scientific dives underwater, she volunteered as a research diver for Reef Check for over 15 years, and was awarded “Citizen Scientist of the Decade” by Reef Check. She was previously a Peace Corps Volunteer, a conservation science researcher for the World Wildlife Fund, and the Director of Education at the California Wildlife Center. Dana earned her master’s degree in Environmental Science and Management from UCSB's Bren School, specializing in Conservation Planning and Coastal Marine Resource Management, and her bachelor’s in Geography and Environmental Studies from UCLA.Dana enjoys volunteering, traveling, and SCUBA diving around the world, and can be found locally sailing along the coast, diving in kelp forests, or playing on the beach with her daughters.
