About Dan Bird

The Wellcome trust public engagement Fellowship will support me to work with a network of science centres to extend the science centre experience and connect with visitors beyond venues and walls. Science is already advancing the study of learning, and I will be finding new ways to implement this in and out of the science centre environment. I am looking forward to being challenged by new projects as well as the entire experience of making this exciting step-change in my own career.My role as Exhibits Director has presented a number of challenging opportunities to build on the success of well established and highly regarded science centres. I believe my contributions have helped shape the direction and achievements of Techniquest and At-Bristol.

    I was responsible for the operation and maintenance of the exhibition spaces. The in-house exhibition team developed new exhibitions for the At-Bristol and clients around the World. We developed our capacity to deliver diverse projects with National impact including 'Inside DNA' and 'In the Zone'. The 'Animate It' exhibition developed with Aardman continues to attract the public with 70% of videos created in venue accessed from home. The smaller 'Investigate' exhibits take phenomena based interactions into the classroom. The refreshment of a millennium funded science centre has gradually improved the experience. Over the past six years our visitor numbers have increased at 10% per year.
