My position with Reed is to grow the Part-Qualified temporary desk within the Commerce and Industry workspace for the London Victoria branch. As this particular office was a focussed heavily on the public sector we needed to establish the Reed brand in the commerce and industry sector as this is where we could warrant bigger placement fees and margins. Notable clients include Eni UK, Caxton FX, British Science Association, Corinthia Hotel, Park Plaza, Modus Group and the Izaki Group.

My role at Hamilton Blake was to build the SharePoint and Silverlight desk in the permanent division. As Silverlight is still an emerging and a niche technology, this meant it was essential to headhunt and network to find the best candidates. Notable clients include Capgemini, Grand Union, LexisNexis, IM Group, Landmark Solutions (Part the Daily mail group) and Barnet Council.

My role involved networking and building relationships with candidates that fall within the IT lifecycle, with a view to placing them with our clients which included the BBC, Warner Music, IPC media, HSBC, IG index, KPMG, BP, Razorfish, AKQA and Cisco. I would meet new candidates on a weekly basis in order to build my core network of people, as well as my knowledge base of the industry we served. In addition to using the job boards to find candidates, events such as PHP London and Flash camp would also be targeted as an effective source of strong candidates, many of which do not use the job boards.

I was an onsite IT technician based at the Centre for High Performance Development (CHPD) – a leadership consultancy - as a remote employee of Bluecube. I was responsible for IT support and customer services, and my duties include problem solving, overseeing the users and ensure their day to day operations run smoothly by resolving any IT issues that may arise during the course of the day. As a Bluecube’s representative at CHPD, I developed skills for nurturing key relationships and maintaining networks. For example, I was successful in rebuilding confidence in the relationship with CHPD and my employers. The key was to understand the client needs, portray empathy rather than sympathy and, provide the reassurance that the task will be completed to their satisfaction. The project support which I gave to the facilities manager enabled the introduction of new products to improve CHPD’s work flow
